New DNV Shackles and Sub-Assemblies Introduced for Offshore Rigs

A New York materials handling company has introduced a new line of DNV-approved shackles and  sub-assemblies to be used by the offshore oil and gas industries.

Columbus McKinnon — the Amherst, New York, based manufacturer of hoist, cranes and other heavy duty materials handling equipment — announced in a news release that it has expanded its offering of shackles, the bolt, nut and cotter assemblies that are frequently used on offshore drilling stations. The products have been approved and certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the world’s leading certification body/registrar.

The company also makes explosion-proof and spark-resistant air chain and wire rope hoists for use on the rigs, where there can sometimes be high levels of explosive gas, vapor or dust. These types of assemblies also are used at refineries, pipelines and downstream oil and gas processing facilities.

Other product specifically designed for offshore platforms include low-headroom hoists, which help over come the challenges of confined workspaces, and rack and pinion trolley drives and track clamps, which keep the trolley secured on the beam and keep the load from moving when the vessel sways.
