Japanese Robotics Firm Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary

In 1915, Daigoro Yusakawa founded a company that made equipment used by coal miners. Today, 100 years later, that company has grown into one of the biggest and most successful robotics firms in the world.

Yaskawa Electric Corporation now has more than 14,000 employees in 28 countries and annul sales of about $3 billion. The robotics firm is recognized as an industry leader in robotic and automation technology.

Junji Tsuda is chairman and president of the company. He said the Yaskawa will commemorate the historic anniversary by developing a new, more modern corporate logo and renewing the company’s identity as a symbol of evolution and future growth.

“Celebrating our 100 year anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the values that have made us successful,” Tsuda said in a company news release. “Our ability to develop products that help society progress will ensure a prosperous future for Yaskawa and our customers.”

Through the years, Yaskawa has developed technological innovations that include the super synchronous motor, minertia motor and Motoman L10 robot.

Although the company is based in Kitakyushu, Japan, its North American subsidiary, Yaskawa America Inc., oversees its Drives & Motion and Motoman Robotics Divisions. Its US headquarters is in Dayton, Ohio.
