Franklin Associates &#8212;\u00a0a leading consulting company specializing on life cycle analyses and solid waste management &#8212;\u00a0was commissioned by IFCO, a manufacture or RPCs, to consider the environmental benefits of their use. The report was issued June 18.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>What Franklin Associates analysts\u00a0found was\u00a0that RPCs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Generate 82% less solid waste than corrugated cardboard boxes<\/li>\n<li>Consume 92% less water<\/li>\n<li>Require 49% less energy<\/li>\n<li>Lower ozone depletion by 76%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Safer, Cleaner, Better<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For every half-ton of produced shipped in RPCs, growers and retailers save about 13 pounds of solid waste, 700,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs) of energy, and 360 gallons of water, according to the report, entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifco-us.com\/res\/marketing_studies_sim\/Franklin_study_lcarpc_EN_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of RPCs and Display- and Non-Display-Ready Corrugated Containers Used for Fresh Produce Applications&#8221;. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reason\u00a0RFCs are considered a better choice\u00a0environmentally over corrugated boxes is because they can be used over and over again, according to Rebe Feraldi, the report&#8217;s primary analyst.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While corrugated containers incorporate recovered fiber and are recycled at higher rates, they must be manufactured and recycled for each produce shipment made in a single-trip container,&#8221; Feraldi said.\u00a0&#8220;The steady-state reuse process of delivering produce in RPCs only\u00a0consumes about 33\/1,000ths or the RPC container material per use cycle compare\u00a0to <a title=\"AIHce: Construction of Green Buildings Does Not Ensure Safety\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bahrns.com\/blog\/material-handling\/aihce-construction-of-green-buildings-does-not-ensure-safety\">100% material manufacturing and recycling<\/a> required per use with shipments made in single-use fiber containers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are RPCs the Right Choice for Your Business?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bahrns has a wide variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahrns.com\/search-reusable+plastic+containers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">different types of RPCs <\/a>that can be used to ship all kinds of products, from fresh produce to durable goods.
