New Tool Improves Ease of Unloading Vans and Trunks

An Australian materials handling manufacturer has developed a new tool that makes it easier to unload boxes, crates and other heavy items from the back of vans, the trunks of cars, or even on top of desks.

The Foldalift lift trolley — from King Materials, of Bayswater, Victoria, Australia — resembles a two-wheeler hand truck on steroids. It has the ability to lift, load and unload heavy items from about waist height. It also features a hand brake wince that operates silently.

The Foldalift features larger rear fixed wheels that have wide treads to facilitate operation on rough surfaces, as well as smaller front castors with brakes, according to a company news release. It removable deck can be stowed separately, or it can fit neatly behind the fold-up legs, allowing the trolley to be thrown into the back of a van or truck and taken along on deliveries.

With a load capacity of 286 pounds, the Foldalift uses a 2:1 winch system, so lifting loads requires only half the effort of a direct lift winch system. It also features two loops that can be used with an optional adjustable strap to constrain loads.

Plus, because the lift trolley rotates on its own access, it is easy to maneuver in narrow spaces.
