Keeping Pests Out of Your Dock Area

Summer has (finally) arrived and with it come warm temperatures, sunny days and easier living. But summer also signals the arrival of insects and other pests that can make your dock area a living nightmare.

Fortunately, there are several products that are designed to protect your dock from insects, birds and even human invaders such as thieves and vandal while still allowing plenty of fresh air and sunshine to flow through. Rolling screen doors can protect your loading dock openings and exterior doorways with a convenient screen barrier.

Various Types of Mesh

They feature different types of mesh that are designed to keep pests out while allowing your dock to benefit from the full effects of the summer season, giving your workers  a more comfortable and productive work space.

Rolling screens also improve safety by providing a visual barrier rather than an open doorway. This makes it more difficult for thieves to move in and out of your dock unnoticed and serves as a deterrent to vandals and other irritating invaders.

These convenient, affordable additions to your dock area can be installed on the exterior or interior of the building in conjunction with existing doors. They can be mounted face of wall, in jamb, inside standoff or with a casing mount. They offer a simple solution to reduce unwanted infiltration, add comfort for your workers, increase productivity and discourage trespassing.

The Birds and the Bees

Rolling screens are available a variety of  different meshes. Bush mesh has smaller holes to prevent tiny insects from making their way into your facility. Bird mesh has larger holes to keep our feathered friends away. There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to get a bird out of your dock area, but with a bird mess rolling screen door, you’ll never have to worry about that again.

Another option is to install solid vinyl doors. While these won’t let air and sunshine in the way bird or insect mesh doors will, they will keep dust, pollutants and other contaminants out of work area. When panel opening speed is not critical, solid vinyl doors offer an excellent low-cost alternative to a high-speed door. Some even come in clear vinyl to provide total visibility and maximum safety.

Human Pests

When security is a bigger concern than keeping insects or birds out, you might consider a wire mesh security door. These are made of an aluminum mesh and are sure to stop trespassing while still allowing natural sunlight and fresh air to enter your dock or work area.

To divide work spaces without having to construct permanent walls, one solution is to install industrial curtains. These typically are made with reinforced flame retardant vinyl and mildew resistant thread. They allow you to maximize your space and provide easy installation, retractibility and mobility not available with permanent wall fixtures.

So now that summer’s here, let the sunshine in while at the same time keeping pests — both human and non-human — out using rolling screens made of various types of mesh.
