Linde Material Handling, a well-known global industrial truck manufacturer, has introduced a new driver assistance system to ensure the safe operation of forklift trucks.

Called “Speed Assist,” the system helps forklift operators drive more safely by reducing their speed when entering a warehouse.

The system includes radar sensors mounted to the overhead guard of the lift that covers a range of 1-meter to 24-meters. Unaffected by cold weather, the sensors operate within a temperature range of -40°C and 65°C. Three different sensor variants are offered to assure compliance with telecommunications guidelines in Europe, the United States, Canada, Brazil, China, Australia and New Zealand.

The sensors feature four different adjustable response time levels so it can easily be adapted to conditions on site. The system senses smaller objects and superstructures including pipelines, porch roofs and treetops due to individualized settings and will not reduce to the desired speed immediately. This allows forklift drivers to work in high speed and maximum efficiency in outdoor conditions. In addition, the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the sensors permits the blocking of unwanted signals.

The system can be retrofitted on existing forklifts. The system includes only a few components so it is easy to install and remove. So it is ideal for use on rented lifts.

It comprises of only three parts –- the sensor, cables with relay and the installation kit that includes a retaining device.
