Now You Can Call Him “Dr. Forklift”

Jason Dorsey, a forklift mechanic from Charlotte, North Carolina, is the first person to be awarded the master technician certification from UniCarriers Americas.

Dorsey, who also was the first certified journeyman through the educational institute, has been a forklift mechanic for the past decade at Western Carolina Forklift. He completed the four year masters program in just two years.

The master technician certification requires participants to complete 20 online and classroom courses. Dorsey said it was difficult balancing his study load with his full-time job, but he had his employer’s support and was anxious to expand his knowledge about the field he loves.

“I appreciated the opportunity to advance quickly through the program,” Dorsey told Logistics Management. “When I was at the in-person training courses, I also completed online courses in my free time. I encourage everyone in the program to do as much of the e-learning in advance as they can, so that they will never feel lost in the lives classes. All of the model-specific training is comprehensive, enabling technicians to diagnose and repair each lift truck, from major engine and transmission maintenance all the way to replacing brake light bulbs and greasing fittings.”

Dorsey said he has been working as a forklift mechanic for nearly two decades.

“I’ve been with Western Carolina Forklift for three years and I’ve been working on forklifts since 1998, although I took a short break for a while and worked on cars,” he said.

UniCarriers University, formerly known as the University of Nissan Forklift, was first launched in 2012. Its state-of-the-art educational traning enables UniCarriers Americas Corporation’s service technicians to consistently rank among the best in the industry.
